Futtaim bint Mohammed leaves an impression at Pink Caravan's Golden Hands Exhibition

WAM Dubai, Mar 01, 2013 (WAM)–Making her mark as the Pink Caravan’s new ambassador, H. H. Sheikha Futtaim bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has had her hand imprinted at the Pink Caravan’s Golden Hands exhibition, which features the handprints of a number of dignitaries and prominent figures, as well as other supporters of the Pink Caravan initiative.

The hand print ceremony was performed during a special event organised by the Pink Caravan, the annual pan-UAE breast cancer awareness initiative of the Friends Of Cancer Patients (FOCP), which also saw the attendance of a number of senior officials and riders.

The ceremony, which took place on Thursday at Meydan in Dubai, was organised in collaboration with the Women’s Banking Services Department (Shahrazad) at Dubai Commercial Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, H. H. Sheikha Futtaim Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: "The Pink Caravan is a national project that deserves tremendous honour and support in recognition of its milestone achievements and the major role it has played in creating awareness in the UAE during the past few years. In light of the results achieved on the ground, the initiative truly deserves great respect and appreciation. I am extremely proud to put my hand in the hands of all those who support the Pink Caravan, and will help it continue to spread its lifesaving message in the UAE in the fight against cancer in our beloved country." Ameera Bin Karam, President of the Board of Trustees and Founding Member of Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) charity organization, also commented: "Although the pan-UAE awareness-raising journey concluded two weeks ago, the results of the 3rd annual Pink Caravan Ride is still a topic of great interest to all." She added: "We are happy with all forms of support the Pink Caravan receives on both the official and public levels. Today, however, we are extremely pleased that H. H. Sheikha Futtaim bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has joined us as ambassador and that her handprint, imprinted in recognition of her role in supporting the Pink Caravan, is now part of the Golden Hands Exhibition." Bin Karam also paid tribute to Dubai Commercial Bank for sponsoring the celebration, a move that comes in line with the bank’s commitment to supporting the principles of social responsibility by honoring humanitarian initiatives such as the Pink Caravan. She said: "We are proud of enhancing such a move on the institutional level in the UAE." It is worth mentioning that H. H. Sheikha Futtaim donated AED 500,000 in support of the Pink Caravan after it concluded its annual 10-day ride, which saw a total of 150 riders completing a 323km journey on horseback across the UAE. The ride took place from 2-12 February 2-12.

The Pink Caravan was accompanied by specialized medical teams who provided early breast cancer detection tests to over 5000 individuals, and who raised awareness about the importance of early detection and self-examination through a series of awareness and training sessions.
