Al Jarwan: Erdogan's remarks against Al-Azhar Imam provocative


WAM ABU DHABI, 27th August 2013 (WAM)– President of the Arab Parliament, Ahmad Mohammed Al-Jarwan, has condemned the remarks made recently by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan against Dr. Ahmed al-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, a top Islamic institution in Egypt.




He emphasised that these remarks against the Islamic would provoke more than one and a half billion muslims around the world, and represent an unacceptable trespassing against one of the top Islamic figures, and should be immediately stopped.




Al Jarwan urged Muslim scholars in Turkey and Arab and non-Arab Muslim countries to confront these unacceptable excesses against Al-Azhar institution which he described as a beacon for moderate and tolerant Islam which spread all over the world, and as an authority in the Muslim world at times of crisis and sedition.
