AMC sets April return date for 'Mad Men'

NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (UPI) —

Season 6 of the 1960s New York-set drama series "Mad Men" is to kick off with a 2-hour episode April 7, AMC announced Wednesday.

The season premiere was written by "Mad Men" creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner and was directed by executive producer Scott Hornbacher.

"To be able to continue exploring the stories of these characters for a sixth season is an amazing opportunity," Weiner said in a statement. "We love mining this world and look forward to bringing the audience stories that we hope will continue to both surprise and entertain them."

"It is a calling card and a point of great pride for AMC to be the network home of ‘Mad Men,’ led by Matthew Weiner and his brilliant team," said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager. "We can’t wait to share Season 6 with the world and what better way to start than with a special 2-hour premiere?"

"The success of ‘Mad Men’ is built on the exceptional artistry and imagination of Matthew Weiner, the cast, and the entire writing and producing team," said Kevin Beggs, president of Lionsgate Television Group, the show’s producers. "They continually strive to raise the bar and we look forward to bringing viewers another great season."
