Sudan: Pact signed with Darfur faction

KHARTOUM, Sudan, March 19 (UPI) —

An armed militia that has broken away from the Darfur rebels has signed an agreement with the Sudanese government, officials say.

Major Gen. Jamal Omer, who heads the Sudanese Ministry of Defense, said the "Darfur Front for Injustice Rebuttal" will join the government armed forces, the Sudan Tribune reported. He said the group has 500 fighters, 10 field commanders and 16 Land Cruisers.

Omer, at a news conference Monday, said the government is in negotiations with other dissident groups in Darfur.

Leaders of the front said the group has decided Abdel Wahid Nur, leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, is not truly interested in bringing peace to the region.
