ATHENS, Greece, June 15 (UPI) —

Seismologists in the United States said their equipment picked up a magnitude 6.2 earthquake on the Greek island of Crete Saturday.

There were no immediate reports from Crete; however, the U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was relatively shallow and a mere 37 miles south of the town of Pirgos and 253 miles from Athens.

The quake struck at 6:11 p.m. local time in Crete.
