'Serious terrorist threat' prompts Morocco to mobilize security services

RABAT, Morocco, July 11 (UPI) —

The Moroccan government has raised its terror alert level, the government confirmed Thursday, mobilizing its security services in response to a "serious terrorist threat."

At a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Interior Minister Mohamed Hassad presented intelligence that showed "a serious terrorist threat" associated with Moroccans joining militant organizations active in Iraq and Syria. The intelligence allegedly indicated that some of the Moroccan fighters intend to carry out an attack against their own country.

The government did not detail what resources were being deployed to counter the threat, or whether there was a specific terrorist plot.
