WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers advertised slightly more jobs in November as overall hiring edged up and more Americans quit their jobs in signs of a healthier environment for workers.
The Labor Department says the number of job postings rose 1.5 percent last month to 5.4 million. That figure has slipped after peaking at a record 5.7 million in July.
Hiring picked up to 5.2 million. The number of people quitting their jobs, a sign of confidence, rose to 2.83 million.
The Labor Department said last week that employers added a strong 292,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate stayed low at 5 percent. But the creation of 2.65 million jobs in 2015 has done little to boost wages, which have risen just 2.5 percent in the past year.
