US stocks mostly lower in midday trade; LendingTree rockets

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are mostly lower in midday trading as traders look ahead to a busy week of corporate earnings and a Federal Reserve meeting.

Housing stocks fell Monday after a surprise drop in new home sales last month. D.R. Horton gave up 2.5 percent.

LendingTree rose sharply after the online mortgage broker reported better-than-expected results for the third quarter.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged down 20 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,627 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell four points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,070. The Nasdaq composite was little changed at 5,030.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.06 percent.
