NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 24 (UPI) — The Walmart truck driver who crashed into Tracy Morgan’s limo van — severely injuring the comedian and killing his friend James McNair — has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Us Weekly reported Kevin Roper was also hit with eight counts of aggravated assault in connection with the June 2014 collision on the New Jersey Turnpike. Roper was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday.
He had allegedly been awake for more than 24 hours when he failed to slow down and rear-ended Morgan’s vehicle, killing McNair and hurting several other passengers.
Morgan was in a coma for two weeks and spent more than a year recovering from broken bones and a brain injury.
The Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock veteran returned to the spotlight at the Emmy Awards ceremony in September and served as guest host of SNL the following month.
