LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 (UPI) — Warner Bros. and DC Comics are moving forward with a new Green Lantern film that will feature multiple heroes titled Green Lantern Corps.
The studio, according to Deadline, has hired David Goyer (Batman Begins, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Justin Rhodes to pen the script along with famed comic book writer and DC Entertainment head Geoff Johns executive producing with Jon Berg.
The film is supposed to work as a new origin story for the ring-wielding hero and is described as a buddy-cop movie which will feature DC’s two most recognizable earth-bound Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
Previously, Ryan Reynolds starred as Hal Jordan in 2011’s critically panned Green Lantern which introduced various other Green Lanterns who protected multiple parts of the universe. Having grossed $220 million worldwide, a sequel was never made.
It remains unlikely that Reynolds would return as Warner Bros. and DC are looking to reboot the franchise.
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story alum and This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown has thrown his hat into the arena to portray John Stewart, writing on Twitter, “Dear powers that be, if you are looking for someone to play John Stewart, I humbly submit my name. Namaste #GreenLanternCorps.”
Recently, Brown joined the cast of rival Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther film.
