Watermelon vandals target parked cars in Reno

RENO, Nev., Sept. 15 (UPI) — Police in Reno, Nev., said they are investigating a rash of vandalism incidents involving watermelons being thrown through car windows.

Angelique Ybarra said she discovered Sunday morning that someone had thrown a watermelon through the rear windshield of her car, shattering the glass and sending debris throughout her vehicle.

Ybarra said the incident was the second of its type. She said a watermelon was smashed against the side of her car in July, but the damage from that incident was minor.

Police said there were several reports Sunday of cars being struck by watermelons overnight.

“That’s sad because we pay to live here and we don’t feel safe to leave our stuff,” Ybarra told KOLO-TV. “I just feel like if it was kids, what would make them do something like this to somebody. I get there are pranks but this is too far.”
