LOS ANGELES, March 30 (UPI) — Willow Smith stood by her mother Jada Pinkett Smith as she received the Star Power Award during BET’s Black Girls Rock! event on Saturday.
Pinkett Smith, 43, was honored with a trailblazer prize for her accomplishments in the entertainment industry. The actress kicked off her career in the early ’90s sitcom A Different World and has gone on to star in multiple Hollywood blockbusters including The Matrix Reloaded, Scream 2 and The Nutty Professor.
While presenting his wife with the award, actor Will Smith said he knew he “needed” Pinkett Smith since he first saw her on television and dismissed the ever present rumors that the couple is headed for divorce.

In her acceptance speech, Pinkett Smith referenced the recent controversy with a tweet about Mo’Nae Davis and declared black women still have “a long way to go.” She also mentioned her 14-year-old daughter stating: “I am you. You are me. We are one.”
First Lady Michelle Obama, who was among the honorees during the festivity, also got a shout out from the actress.
Pinkett Smith currently stars in Fox’ Gotham and has a role in the forthcoming film Magic Mike XXL.
