HONOLULU, Jan. 22 (UPI) — A second witness has come forward to contradict Robert Allenby’s claims he was robbed and kidnapped in Hawaii, saying instead that the pro golfer was drunk, fell and hit his head after visiting a strip club.
Allenby said he was jumped, beaten, robbed, stuffed in a car and dumped six miles away after he left Amuse Wine Bar in Waikiki on Friday. He said two homeless people then kicked him and beat him to steal whatever was left on him.
A homeless woman came forward to say she helped Allenby after his attack and saw him one block from the wine bar trying to pay two men $500 to return his belongings, after which they became aggressive.
Now another homeless person is adding his voice to those who say Allenby’s story just doesn’t add up.
Chris Khamis, 47, said he was with Allenby when the golfer hurt his head.
“There was no crime (when I was present). It was his stupidity,” Khamis told the Honolulu Star Advertiser. “(Allenby) passed out and hit his head. I was there. Nobody pushed him out of a car.”
Khamis said he had turned to try to find a cab for Allenby and when he turned back around, he saw the golfer on the ground with his head bleeding. Khamis said Allenby hit his head on a lava rock.
Allenby responded to Khamis’ allegations on Channel 9 Australia.
“I don’t know that because I was unconscious.”
Khamis said Allenby told him he was depressed after missing the cut for the Sony Open on Friday and had gone to the strip club to get some “action.”
“He was very down, very, very down, about losing,” Khamis said.
The Honolulu Police Department hasn’t opened kidnapping or assault cases based on Allenby’s claims. Officials say it’s unlikely the claims would be pursued because there’s no evidence of a robbery.
The department is investigating the unauthorized use of credit cards after Allenby said someone used his to spend $25,000 at an Oahu jewelry store.
