May 23 (UPI) — Former Shield brothers and future opponents Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins joined forces once again Monday on Raw to take on Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe.
The Tag Team Match was made by Raw general manager Kurt Angle after Joe interfered in a match between Reigns and Wyatt where Rollins also got involved.
Despite being former partners as part of The Shield, Reigns and Rollins did not get along during the bout and found themselves arguing over who was going to begin the match.
Wyatt and Joe took advantage of the bickering after Reigns accidentally knocked into Rollins as he prepared to deliver a Superman Punch. The ensuing argument allowed Wyatt to nail Reigns with a Sister Abigail outside the ring while Joe administered the Coquina Clutch on Rollins for the win.
The four competitors, including Finn Balor, are set to face off in a Fatal 5-Way match at Extreme Rules to determine who will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
In anticipation of the Fatal 5-Way, Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman addressed Balor inside the ring to wish the Superstar good luck on behalf of the Universal Champion and to share how he is rooting for Balor to win the match.
In response, Balor shook hands with Heyman and promised that he would win the Fatal 5-Way and then go on to defeat The Beast to recapture the title that he never lost.
Also on Raw, Akira Tozara defeated Ariya Daivari, Elias Samson defeated Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose in a non-title match via disqualification after The Miz interfered, Balor defeated Karl Anderson, Sasha Banks defeated Alicia Fox, Kalisto defeated Apollo Crews, Raw Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy defeated Sheamus, Austin Aries defeated Tony Nese and Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss defeated Mickie James.
