WWE TLC: AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose reach for the title, Nikki Bella ends rivalry with Carmella

DALLAS, Dec. 5 (UPI) — Smackdown Live went extreme Sunday at WWE’s annual no-holds-barred December showcase, TLC (Tables, Ladders and Chairs).

As is tradition, the main event between AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose was decided in a TLC match with Styles’ WWE Championship left hanging above the ring as both Superstars brutalized each other in order to grab it.

The bout saw The Phenomenal One and Lunatic Fringe throw caution to the wind as they each took to the skies multiple times in other to gain the upper hand.

Some of the most shocking and dangerous moments came after Ambrose delivered a high-flying elbow to Styles through a table off the top of a ladder that was situated on top of another table. Styles would later get his revenge when he hit Ambrose with a breathtaking 450 Splash from the top rope onto a table.

Following that maneuver, Styles seemed to have the match won until unlikely hero James Ellsworth hobbled over to the ring to seemingly help out his friend Ambrose. After being distracted, Ambrose slammed Styles down on the stairs with Dirty Deeds that left the champ out cold.

As he climbed the ladder to become a two-time WWE Champion, Ellsworth then shockingly tipped the ladder over which sent Ambrose crashing through more tables. The betrayal led to Styles winning the match and retaining his title.

“NOOOO!!! @RealEllsworth sends @TheDeanAmbrose crashing through ringside tables!!” WWE noted on Twitter of the moment. “What just happened?!?! @AJStylesOrg retains his @WWE World Championship, thanks to … @RealELLSWORTH?!?!?” they continued with a clip of Styles celebrating.

In keeping with the night’s hardcore theme, Nikki Bella was able to finally dispatch of her longtime rival Carmella in a No Disqualification match with help of fire extinguisher which she used extensively on the Princess of Staten Island.

After Bella won the match with her patent Rack Attack, Carmella then made sure to spoil the reality star’s victory when she grabbed a microphone to announce that Bella’s Total Divas costar Natalya was the one who attacked her at Survivor Series. Soon after, Natalya denied the allegations backstage.

Elsewhere in the Smackdown Live women’s division. Alexa Bliss pulled an upset over Becky Lynch to become the new Smackdown Women’s Champion after she power bombed the Lass Kicker through a table.

Other highlights from TLC included The Miz defeating Dolph Ziggler in a TLC Match to retain his Intercontinental Championship, Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt defeating Heath Slater and Rhyno to become the new Smackdown Tag-Team Champions and Baron Corbin defeating Kalisto in a Chairs Match.
