WASHINGTON, Nov. 10 (UPI) — The mysterious cause of 13-year-old Caleb Logan Brataley’s death was finally disclosed by his family through an Instagram post Tuesday.
According to the late teen’s family profile, Bratayley died in early October from an undetected heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
“The doctor confirmed today that Caleb passed away from a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy that went undetected in his yearly checkups,” said the family’s matriarch alongside a photo of the teen. “Caleb didn’t have any symptoms so the doctor said there was nothing we could have done differently. The girls’ hearts were just recently checked and thankfully look the way they should right now.”
The young YouTube star died suddenly during the evening of Oct. 1, having recorded a video for his family’s online channel just the day before. “The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable,” the post continued. “Thank you for everyone who has reached out, your kindness and support continues to help our family. We miss our baked potato everyday.”
The condition in question causes the heart muscle to thicken, making it more difficult to pump blood, according to Mayo Clinic. . Most people with the heart disease live their lives without symptoms, while others can experience severe pain and abnormal heart rhythms.
