London (AFP) – Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Walter Zenga insists his surprise appointment by the Championship club’s new Chinese owners will prove a wise decision.

Former Italy goalkeeper Zenga was confirmed as the second tier team’s boss less than 12 hours after the Fosun International group announced they had sacked Kenny Jackett.

Fosun’s decision to axe the respected Jackett, who led Wolves to promotion from League One in 2014, and hire Zenga came just a week after the Chinese consortium’s takeover, prompting criticism in some quarters as Zenga is now at his 10th club in just 10 years.

The 56-year-old, who counts Sampdoria, New England Revolution and Red Star Belgrade among his former employers, has just a few days to get up to speed with English football before Wolves’ opening league fixture against Rotherham United.

But Zenga, who enjoyed a glittering playing career with Inter Milan and Italy, is confident he can prove the doubters wrong as Fosun prepare a major spending spree to push Wolves back into the Premier League.

“Why is it a risk? Don’t take it from the internet that everything is right because the internet is a good thing in 2016, but it can also be the worst thing. Some things cannot be (written) in the right way,” Zenga said on Monday.

“This is not the moment to explain the reasons why. Some time I can tell you I moved from a job because for sixth months I didn’t receive a salary but the internet doesn’t mention this.

“It doesn’t matter how long. It’s the result which depends on the length of the contract. If the coach is working well, this is the point.

“It’s an amazing club and I will do my best to give my knowledge and passion to them.”
