Bulawayo (Zimbabwe) (AFP) – Craig Ervine hit his maiden Test century as Zimbabwe held off a determined New Zealand bowling attack on day three of the second Test at Queens Sports Club on Monday.

Ervine made the most of an early life to score an unbeaten 115, which allowed Zimbabwe to go to stumps on 305 for six, just 78 runs shy of avoiding the follow-on.

The left-hander was ably supported by debutant Peter Moor, who scored 71 in a 148-run partnership for the sixth wicket that made it Zimbabwe’s day.

It might have been very different had Ross Taylor held a regulation slip catch when Ervine was on just one.

Zimbabwe still trailed New Zealand’s first innings total of 582 for four declared by 277 runs.
