The NFL has released its schedule of London games for 2015. Contradicting an earlier report from The Daily Mail, the schedule shows three games–not five–played at Wembley Stadium.
For the first time, a divisional game takes place overseas as the Jets take on the Dolphins in Week 4 on October 4, 2015. The Jaguars play the Bills on October 25 in Week 7 and the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions play the following week at Wembley.
“We believe we have a great 2015 schedule that will continue to attract new fans to our sport and strengthen the bonds with our existing fans,” Mark Waller, NFL executive vice president, maintained in a statement. “To provide U.K. fans the opportunity to see games on consecutive weekends, to see new teams, and to attend a division game, which feature some of the most passionate rivalries in our sport, are signs of the growth and depth of our U.K. fan base.”
The NFL hopes to grow that fan base into one that can support a team. With a British owner and one home game a year in London through 2016, the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be the franchise most likely to make the permanent leap over the pond.
