NFL Players Strip for PETA Campaign

New York Jets safety Bret Lockett and Buffalo Bills defensive end Shawne Merriman took off their clothes to star in “Ink, Not Mink” campaigns for PETA, the radical anti-fur and animal rights group.

Lockett said he was motivated to star in the campaign after he saw that “an animal was still able to move and lift its head up after it was completely skinned.”

“It brought tears to my eyes,” Lockett said

Merriman is also starring in a campaign to let “consumers to know that every year, millions of foxes, minks, and rabbits–and even cats and dogs–are beaten, electrocuted, and strangled for their pelts.”

“Shawne Merriman is a tough opponent on the field, but it’s as plain as the words on his chest that he has a heart of gold for animals,” PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said in a statement. “Football’s a rough sport, but as PETA’s undercover videos show, it has nothing on the violence of the fur industry.”

Athletes that have participated in campaigns for PETA include: Terrell Suggs, Willis McGahee, Chris Andersen, Chad Ochocinco, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tony Gonzalez, Aaron Curry, Michael Strahan, Gilbert Arenas, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, and Tito Ortiz.
