Report: Armstrong to Confess He Doped 'Throughout His Career' to Oprah

Lance Armstrong plans to admit that he doped “throughout his career” in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

According to a report in USA Today, Armstrong will make his confession to Oprah in a taped interview from his Austin, Texas home on Monday. The interview is scheduled to air on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) on Thursday.

“A person with knowledge of the situation” also said Armstrong is unlikely to get into “great detail about specific cases and events.”

Armstrong has denied for years that he had doped.

Armstrong’s admissions could make him vulnerable to charges of perjury (Armstrong testified under oath that he had not doped) or being “sued or held liable by those who believe he defrauded them by lying about his performance and use of drugs.”

After the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency “released a massive amount of evidence” in October that implicated Armstrong in numerous doping incidents, Armstrong stepped down from Livestrong, the charity he founded to fight cancer. He was also banned from cycling for life and stripped of his Tour de France titles.
