Poll: Democrats Most Likely to Believe God Determines Outcome of Sporting Events

Democrats are most likely to believe God plays a role in determining the outcome of sporting events.

According to a Public Religion Research Institute survey, 27% of Americans believed “God plays a role in determining which team wins a sporting event.” When respondents were broken down by political party, 28% of Democrats, 25% of Republicans and 26% of Independents said they believed God determines the outcome of games. 

Public Religion Research Institute conducted the survey between January 16, 2013 and January 20. The organization polled 1,033 adults, 415 of whom were interviewed on a cell phone. The survey’s margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points.
