NBA Union Chief Placed on Indefinite Leave of Absence

NBA union chief Billy Hunter was placed on an indefinite leave of absence on Friday in what is likely the first step to get him permanently removed from his position.

The NBA Players Association said Ron Klempner will be appointed acting executive director and plans to “move the organization forward.”

After an exhaustive review by independent counsel, Hunter was found to have been negligent in using union funds to enrich family members and cronies and give himself lavish vacation payouts.

Hunter paid himself $1.3 million for 146 days of “unused” vacation time without any independent review of the payment.
