SF Head Coach Jim Harbaugh's Son Not Rooting for Father

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh’s 23-year-old son Jay will not be rooting for his father in Sunday’s Super Bowl. That’s because he is an intern coach for the Baltimore Ravens, a team that is coached by his uncle John Harbaugh.

“I couldn’t fathom even considering not being all in with the team I’m a part of,” Jay Harbaugh told the Los Angeles Times. “Any true competitor feels the exact same way. You have to be totally all in with your team, sold on the vision. Otherwise, there’s no point. No point to being a part of it, putting in all the time that you do and making the sacrifices.”

Jack Harbaugh, Jay’s grandfather, let reporters know that Jay was helping John and the Ravens with video to help the team prepare for games.

“One story I want to mention is Jay Harbaugh, how many know who Jay Harbaugh is?” Jack asked reporters last week. “Anybody know Jay Harbaugh? … It’s kind of an interesting story. He does video and works in the weight room … so you’ve got father and son competing on Sunday night as well.”

Jim said he has not been talking or calling his son but has sent him a “couple of of texts to let him know how I feel about him.”

John, who is Jay’s uncle, wondered if Jay be the Ravens’ secret weapon.

“He’s far better than I even anticipated,” John said. “The way we look at it… maybe that will tip the scale. Maybe it will be Jay.”
