Breitbart Recap of All 17 Games that Could Impact Bids

Notre Dame and St. Mary’s probably sealed NCAA tournament bids with time to spare, while St. Louis, Baylor, La Salle and Temple also had wins that could put them in the tournament. The following is the recap of every Saturday game involving a Breitbart “Middle 20” team- from which there are 10 spots available for March Madness:

Middle 20 Rank Team Recap of games that could determine if teams get NCAA bids Chances went
Notre Dame Simply put, Notre Dame is in the tournament after the five overtime classic over Louisville and someone like Mississippi will be replacing them on this “Middle 20” list. way up
St. Mary’s We said Matthew Dellavedova could go in and get another impressive road win against a solid San Diego team (6-5 in WCC after loss), and he did exactly that. He put up 19 points, four rebounds and seven assists for the 74-64 win, and St. Mary’s looks like all but in teh tournament. up
Brigham Young BYU was run off the court in the second half by a San Francisco team with a losing record, as De’End Parker scored 23 and San Francisco scored 60 in the second half for a 99-87 stunning upset on BYU’s home floor. way down
St. Louis St. Louis’ put themselves solidly in the tournament by winning 56-46 at Richmond, after the Spiders had beaten three straight conference leaders – Charlotte, VCU and Xavier – in succession. way up
Oregon Oregon’s NCAA bid may have been hanging in the balance when lowly Utah took a 30-22 lead into halftime. A forth straight loss would have been devastating, but Arsalan Kazemi took over in the second half to perhaps save the Ducks season, 73-64. steady
Baylor Baylor rolled past Texas Tech 75-48, looking dominant like in the early season. up
Illinois Did not play Saturday. no change
La Salle La Salle took care of business, dominating Fordham 89-53. up
Indiana St. Jake Odum came through against by getting to the hoop with 19 seconds left in the game, to give Indiana State a 66-65. A home loss to lowly Southern Illinois would have been a serious blow to the chances for a tournament invite for Larry Bird’s school. dropping
UCLA UCLA is probably the team that could either be in the Elite 8 or miss the tournament, but if their freshman-led team continues to dish out 22 assists like in the 76-62 blow out of Washington State, have fun trying to stop Shabazz Muhammad (12 of 17 points in first half) and Kyle Anderson (12 points and 7 assists) in March. up
Temple Temple’s upset win at Dayton (5-point underdog on road) added to their win at Syracuse could get them off the bubble and in the tourney as of today. way up
Stanford We said Dwight Powell had to play big to pull of a tough road win at Arizona State, and he came through with 22 points to give the Cardinal a 62-59 to give them a huge boost toward a bid. Arizona State is still 7-4 in the conference, one game ahead of Stanford. way up
South Dakota St. Nate Wolters attempt to will South Dakota State into the NCAA tournament fell short. He scored enough 36 points to give him 99 points in two games and added seven assists, and it still wasn’t enough in a 88-83 loss at Oakland. way down
Boise St. Boise State kept hopes alive of a bid by shutting down Wyoming for just 19 first half points en route to an easy win. Anthony Drmic’s 21 points were the key to the 68-61 as Boise State builds a resume that might be good enough. up
Alabama Nick Jacobs hit two free throws and Alabama’s defense denied three 3-point attempts as Bama survived 60-57 in a game that could have severely damaged their chances for a bid. steady
Maryland Did not play Saturday. no change
Charlotte Charlotte missed a chance at home for a big upset that might get them into consideration for a bid, as VCU won their third straigth 68-61 behind a big second half from Rob Brandenberg. down
Massachusetts Chaz Williams dished out 9 assists in addition to his 11 points to help UMass to a surprisingly easy 80-62 win over St. Joe’s to keep hopes for a tournament bid alive. up
New Mexico St. New Mexico State will probably have to win the WAC to get into the tournament after barely surviving 60-57 against a Seattle team that is 7-16. Daniel Mullings saved the win with 18 points. down
St. John’s Did not play Saturday. no change
