Top Coaches Still Seeking Elite, Unsigned Recruits

While most recruits used last Wednesday as the time to sign with the school of their choice, a number of elite players are still “on the market.”

Unfortunately, for coaches like Kevin Sumlin (pictured) looking to bolster their signing classes, many of these prospects are more likely to spend next year at the junior college level.

Derrick Griffin, a 6’7″ wide receiver from Texas, leads this group of prospects. While Griffin is more likely to spend the next two years in the junior college system, he is still considering signing with Auburn or Texas A&M. A decision could be reached soon, and, if either of these programs can get him into school, they will be landing a physical specimen and elite talent.

Linebacker James Hearns and wide receiver Taj Williams also let Signing Day come and go without determining their college destination, although Hearns entered the day committed to Kentucky. The two are likely to eventually go the route of elite Louisiana defensive back Jeremy Cutrer who already signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Decisions will come soon, however, for JUCO defensive tackle Toby Johnson who will decide between Auburn, Georgia, and Mississippi State after a visit to the Bulldogs this weekend. Corn Elder, a dynamic running back will likely choose Georgia Tech over Florida State and Auburn on February 20^th. Elder, however, is looking to devote most of his attention to basketball at the next level.

Each of these players would be great additions to their ultimate destinations. For those that go the junior college route, the next two years will provide an outstanding opportunity to develop some already impressive skills.
