The Carolina Panthers want at least $200 million in public funds to renovate Bank of America Stadium, which is where President Barack Obama was scheduled to give his acceptance speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Panthers President Danny Morrison said the total cost of the upgrades will be between $261 million and $297 million, and the Panthers want $144 million from a food and beverage tax increase and $60 million directly from North Carolina.
According to the Associated Press, the primary objectives of the upgrades include “installing three escalators to reach the upper level, new video and ribbon boards and an improved sound system, as well as upgrading technology and stadium infrastructure and improving access to the stadium through enhanced entry gates.”
The stadium opened in 1996.
