On Tuesday, an LPGA golfer finished her qualifying round at the Australian Open after she was bitten in the leg by a black widow spider and used a tee to dig out the bite and squeeze the venom out herself.
When medics did not come fast enough after Swedish golfer Daniela Holmqvist was bitten on the leg by a black widow spider during a qualifying round for the LPGA’s ISPS Handa Australian Open in Yarralumla, Australia, she used one of her tees and decided to take action:
“When I told the local caddies in my group what had happened, they got very upset and said it was a black widow, and immediately started looking for their phones to call the medics.”
Holmqvist said “a clear fluid came out, it wasn’t the prettiest thing I’ve ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible.”
She finished her round by shooting a 74 and eventually did not qualify for the tournament.
