Snow Suspends Match Play Golf Championship … in Arizona

The first round of golf’s Match Play Championship on Wednesday was suspended because of snow – in Arizona.

Ten matches, including Tiger Woods’s against Charles Howell III, had not started when play was halted. Rory McIlroy also had not started his round when the golf course at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona became covered with snow. Players on the golf course were playing in beanies because it was so cold.

After snow started falling on the course, caddies got into snowball fights

As the Associated Press notes, play was briefly suspended at Dove Mountain in 2011 when snow fell on the course before the final round. But the amount of snow that fell then was nothing compared to Wednesday’s snowfall.
