Top America East Conference seeds Stony Point and Vermont Advance

The top two seeds in the American East Conference, Stony Point and Vermont, won in blowout wins to advance to the semifinals, and keep open the prospect of playing each other in the championship.

#2 Vermont 61, #6 New Hampshire 42

Vermont came back from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat New Hampshire 61-42 Saturday in the America East Conference quarterfinals.

The Catamounts shot 58.3 percent in the second half to 17.4 percent for UNH.

The second-seeded Catamounts (20-10) trailed at halftime, but used a 27-3 run to take a lead they would not relinquish.

#4 Albany 50, #5 Maine 49

Sam Rowley made a layup with 19 seconds left to lift #4 seed Albany to a one-point win over #5 seed Maine in the America East quarterfinals.

The game went back and forth in the final two minutes, with two ties and two lead changes before Rawley’s heroics.

#7 UMBC 69, #3 Hartford 62

UMBC shot 78.9% in the second half to upset third-seeded Hartford in the America East quarterfinals Friday. Ryan Cook scored 24 for the Retrievers, who had their second-best half in America East conference history in advancing to meet Vermont in the semifinals.

#1 Stony Brook 72, #8 Binghamton 49

Top-seeded Stony Brook had no problem getting by Binghamton, shooting better than 52% from the floor on their way to sending the last-place Bearcats home for the year and moving on to face fourth-seeded Albany in the semifinals.
