March Madness: Pair of Buzzer-Beaters Set Horizon Tourney Final

Both Horizon League semifinal games ended in buzzer beaters, as top-seed Valparaiso squeaked by 4-seed Green Bay, but 2-seed Detroit was upset by 3-seed Wright State.

#1 Valparaiso 70, #4 Green Bay 69

#1 seed Valpo squeaked by a game Green Bay team on the strength of a last-second desperation three pointer by Ryan Broekhoff, advancing to the Horizon finals against third-seed Wright State.

It was the fifth three-pointer for Broekhoff, who scored 25 to lead the Crusaders. Keifer Sykes led the Phoenix with 31 in the loss.

#3 Wright State 56, #2 Detroit 54

March Madness began early in the Horizon Tournament, where third seed Wright State upset Detroit on a last second, off balance baseline jumper from Miles Dixon as time expired. Detroit had tied the game with 1:10 to play on a three pointer by Jason Calliste, setting up Dixon’s behind-the-backboard heroics.

Wright State will meet #1 seed Valpo in the Finals.
