In the preseason some thought that the Duke-UNC finale this year might not feature the ACC champion for a change. What is a surprise is that it is Miami, rather than preseason favorite NC State, who hosted the outright ACC championship trophy tonight after Kenny Kadji’s 23 points gave the Hurricanes a 62-49 win over Clemson Saturday.
Duke beat Miami earlier in the week to keep their hopes of getting a share of the title alive, and then received unexpected help when Georgia Tech also defeated Miami and Clemson played them to a 25-25 halftime tie Saturday. However, the Hurricanes pulled away quickly in the second half.
This is the first outright conference title for Miami, though they did share the Big East title with Syracuse previously.
