Dick Vitale: Pay College Players

ESPN college basketball commentator Dick Vitale thinks college basketball players should get paid.

“My feeling is with the millions that are being made by the schools and the billions for television rights, I definitely think the kids should get paid something–a couple of hundred bucks a month at least,” Vitale said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “I mean, the money they’re bringing in–are you kidding me? I’ll tell you, if someone is going to sell a jersey with my name on the back of it, I want to get paid.”

Vitale’s point has been made by college basketball players in the past–like Michigan’s Jalen Rose when he was a part of Michigan’s Fab Five.

The legendary commentator also said he favors high school players that are good enough to play in the NBA–like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett–being allowed to go straight to the NBA. He said once a basketball player decides to enroll in college, though, the player should be required to stay for three years.
