Miami Wins First ACC Title

Miami won its first ACC Tournament title after outscoring the North Carolina Tar Heels 26-14 over the last 8:24 of the second half en route to an 87-77 victory. Both teams put on amazing shooting displays but the Hurricanes caught fire at the right time, shooting a stellar 50% from the floor and 54% from beyond the arc.

P.J. Hairston turned in a valiant effort for the Tar Heels, scoring 28 points and contributing 6 threes to UNC’s efforts, but Carolina had no answer for the Miami duo of Shane Larkin and Trey Jones. Larkin scored 28 points while going 4-7 from beyond the arc and Jones added 20 points with 6-9 shooting from deep.

Miami waltzed into the ACC finals having won by double digits in both the quarterfinals and semifinals, a trend that continued in the championship against the Heels. North Carolina’s road to the championship matchup was made considerably easier after Duke was upset by Maryland in the quarterfinals, a loss that cost Duke a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Both Miami and North Carolina will look to continue their hot shooting in the Big Dance as they embark on their quest for the NCAA Title.
