Cardinals Acquire Palmer on Cheap

In a deal that has been anticipated for several days, the Arizona Cardinals have acquired quarterback Carson Palmer from the Oakland Raiders.

Whereas Oakland gave up a their 2012 first round pick and their 2013 second round pick to get Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals, they now will receive a sixth round pick from the Cardinals (#176) and a conditional seventh round pick for 2014 in exchange for Palmer and the Raiders’ seventh round selection this year (#219).

This is a win-win for both teams as the Raiders now move on from a colossal mistake and get rid of Palmer’s bloated contract and the Cardinals acquire an NFL-level quarterback who is a perfect fit for Bruce Arians’ offense.

Oakland acquired Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks yesterday, making Palmer expendable. He had refused to restructure his deal with the Raiders, but he will do so for the Cardinals.
