Chris Christie: Fired Rutgers Basketball Coach an 'Animal'

On Monday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said fired Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice was an “animal” who should have been fired last year.

Rice was fired last week after ESPN obtained a video that showed him hurling basketballs and hitting players in addition to repeatedly slurring them. Rice apparently had anger issues and took out his anger on the players in order to make himself feel better. Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti resigned on Friday.

“What parent would let this animal back in their living room to try to recruit their son after viewing this video?” Christie asked.

Christie addressed reporters in front of the statehouse, and said he believed the “conduct on that tape is unacceptable for any person who is supposed to be a role model and leader for student athletes.”

“He should have been fired in November, and quite frankly should have been fired well before then,” Christie said.
