53-Year-Old Fred Couples Trying to Be Oldest Masters Winner After Shooting 68

Fred Couples, the 1992 Masters winner and 53-year-old who prepares every year for his return trip to Augusta, shot a 4-under 68 on Thursday in the first round of the Masters.

He said he was proud of his round, and Couples, just two shots behind co-leaders Sergio Garcia and Marc Leishman, is seeking to be the oldest winner in the history of the Masters. Jack Nicklaus won the Masters when he was 46, and is the oldest player to have ever won.

Couples, whose swing is as graceful as he is, would also be the oldest winner of any major should he win another Green Jacket on Sunday.
