Dwight Howard kept the Los Angeles Lakers close for most of the first half, with four inside baskets, including a three-point play off a lay-up and foul to give the Lakers their last lead at 44-43 with 2:55 to play in the half. However, Matt Bonner responded with a three-pointer to spark a 17-4 run that made it 60-48 Spurs in the first minute of the second half, and French star Tony Parker had 28 points and seven assists to make the Spurs the 6th team to take a 2-0 playoff lead.
A three-pointer at the end of the game by the Lakers made the score look closer than it was at 102-91.
The other 2-0 leaders include the Heat, Knicks, Clippers, Thunder and Pacers. The Warriors and Bulls both split on the road prior to all eight road teams going home for Game 3.
Paul George backed up his new Most Improved Player Award with 27 points to lead a 113-98 blowout of Atlanta.
The Thunder’s big lead melted away with nine straight empty possessions as the Rockets mixed in a zone defense. James Harden spearheaded a 21-2 Houston comeback by getting into the lane to create his own opportunities, and he also kicked the ball out to set up two 3-pointers by Carlos Delfino. His second 3, from the right wing, provided a 95-91 lead with 3:27 to go.
