Red Wings Continue Playoff Appearance Streak

The Detroit Red Wings are headed to the playoffs for the 22nd season in a row. They defeated the Dallas Stars 3-0.

Captain Henrik Zetterberg came through with two goals and one assist. His first goal came in the first when his backhanded pass deflected off Dallas defenseman Alex Goligoski’s into the net. He scored a short-handed goal in the beginning of the third period.  Jonathan Ericsson scored his third goal later in the third period. Pavel Datsyuk assisted on all three goals.

The Red Wings captured the seventh seed and will face off against second seed Anaheim Ducks. The last time they missed the playoffs was 1989-90.

Dallas finished the season on a five-game losing streak for the second year in a row and will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight year. They broke their 15-year streak of winning seasons with this defeat.

Because Detroit and Minnesota won, the Columbus Blue Jackets were eliminated from the playoffs. The Stanley Cup Playoffs start on Tuesday, April 30.
