Ducks Demolish Red Wings 4-0, Takes 2-1 Series Lead

The Detroit Red Wings need to decide which team will show up in their playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks. Either they play extremely well or horribly bad with no in between. Game three was not any different and they lost 4-0, allowing the Ducks to take a 2-1 series lead.

Late in the second period Detroit Justin Abdelkader was given a 5:00 minute major for charging and game misconduct after hitting Anaheim defenseman Toni Lydman. More than likely he will be suspended at least two games. The replay shows his skates did leave the ice and he hit Lydman’s head. This penalty was the turning point of the game.

Nick Bonino scored 18 seconds into power play to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Since the power play was a major the Ducks remained on the power play and luckily for the Red Wings they did not score again.

The Ducks received three more goals in the third from Ryan Getzlaf, Emerson Etem, and a power play goal from Matt Belesky.

The Red Wings could not penetrate the Ducks’ defense or their goalie Jonas Jiller, who gave up five easy goals in game two. In game three he saved all 23 shots he faced. Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard saved 25 out of 29 shots.

Game four is Monday night at 8PM ET in Detroit.
