Despite not having played much last season and being currently unemployed in the NFL, Tim Tebow is still the most influential athlete in America.
According to Forbes, “a unique set of QB strengths and weaknesses and an affinity for wearing his Christian faith on his sleeve combine to make Tebow a compelling public figure, even as an NFL backup.”
“For a backup quarterback to be talked about so much is incredible,” Stephen Master, senior vice president of Sports for Nielsen, said.”But it is the biggest market.”
Nielsen partnered with E-Poll for the survey.
Tebow topped the list ,as 29% of respondents judged him to be “influential.” Rounding out the top five were swimmer Michael Phelps, sprinter Usain Bolt, New York Yankee great Derek Jeter, and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
