Cardinals Miller Retires 27 Straight In 3-0 Victory Over Rockies

Rookie Shelby Miller gave up one hit in a near perfect game for the St. Louis Cardinals to beat the Colorado Rockies 3-0.

Rockies right-fielder Eric Young led off with a single, but after that Miller retired 27 straight batters. He did not walk or hit anyone and no one reached on an error. He did strike out 13 batters. His ERA is now 1.89, which is the lowest ERA for a Cardinals pitcher in the first eight starts in their history.

While Miller had a great game he gave a lot of the credit to his catcher Yadi Malina. The AP reports:

“I say it time and time again, what Yadi calls, I throw,” Miller said. “He was calling the right thing all night. He’s done a terrific job all year and he’s helping me out tremendously. I’m happy he’s my catcher, that’s for sure.”

Pete Kozma singled in the bottom of the second to bring home Jon Jay. In the third, Carlos Beltran slammed his ninth home run. Jay hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring home Matt Holliday. The Cardinals had a total of seven hits and Rockies pitcher struck out five and walked three.
