Red Wings Stay Alive With OT Victory

The Detroit Red Wings forced a game seven in their Western Conference Quarterfinals series with the Anaheim Ducks with a 4-3 overtime win on Friday.

Captain Henrik Zetterberg was the hero after being non-existent in the first five games. He scored a power play goal in the third and the game winning goal only a minute into overtime.

The game was 1-1 going into the third period when the offense on both sides blew up. It started with Zetterberg’s goal and Daniel Cleary gave the Red Wings a 3-1 lead with his goal at 11:30. It looked like the Red Wings were going to win, but the Ducks did not give up.

Ducks’ Emerson Etem took the puck after the Red Wings Valterri Filppula left it unprotected behind the Red Wings net and slapped it behind goalie Jimmy Howard. 90 second later Corey Perry passed the puck to Bobby Ryan, who slipped it past Howard to tie the game 3-3 with only a few minutes left in the game.

All three Detroit victories happened in overtime and Anaheim came back from deficits in games two and six to win.

Game seven is Sunday night at 10PM ET in Anaheim at the Honda Center.
