French Open: Wake Up Early for Serena's Match

Americans on the East Coast may wake up Sunday to see Serena Williams playing in the Round of 16 in the French Open. The No. 1 player in the world who used to be heckled during the tournament has apparently won the crowd over by speaking French. As shown on the table of all eight matches below, Williams was the most dominant player either men’s or women’s play in the Round of 32, winning 86 percent of her games (6-0, 6-2) to be one of four American women to advance. Once again, no American men made it to the Round of 16 on clay.

Californians would need to stay up until 2 a.m. while New Yorkers will need to get up very early to see the match between Svetlana Kuznetsova and Angelique Kerber, who both barely survived in the last round by winning only 57 percent (6-4, 7-6) and 55 percent (6-4, 6-7, 6-4) of their games respectively in the Round of 32. Williams match will start next.

Williams has been as dominant as ever in rolling through the early rounds, and is considered a heavy favorite to go all the way.

Sara Errani plays after Williams. Errani won 75 percent of her games in the last round.

Three other Americans made the Round of 16, but none will play Sunday. The first four games are in the order they are scheduled to be played Sunday, weather permitting.
