Police Seize Suspected Pot Shipment Sent to Indians Closer

On a day when Major League Baseball was reeling with news that upwards of 20 players could be suspended for up to 100 games in yet another doping scandal, the Cleveland Indians are dealing with their own drug problem. Police officers, narcotics units, and postal inspectors uncovered a suspected marijuana shipment to Chris Perez, the Indians’s sometimes troubled, currently injured, and always colorful closer.

Charges have yet to be filed, but Rocky River (OH) Police Chief Kelly Stillman told the AP earlier today, “Depending on what it was and how much it was, charges will be filed accordingly.”

It is unclear how much support Perez will get from the Indians fans or management. Perez has criticized both the fans and the management in the last year, essentially calling the fans lazy and the management cheap.  The teams manager, Terry Francona said Wednesday he had reached out to Perez to make sure he was okay.

The Cleveland closer is currently on the disabled list with a right shoulder injury.
