San Diego 3, Atlanta 2
Andrew Cashner (5-3) pitched eight strong innings, striking out five and outdueling Tim Hudson (4-6) on the way to a 3-2 win over the NL East leaders. Cashner has now gone six-plus innings in seven straight starts; Hudson is winless in his last seven starts, going 0-5.
Chase Headley homered in the first for the Padres, while Luke Gregerson worked in the ninth for his third save in five chances. Padres closer Huston Street will begin his rehab today.
Colorado 8, Washington 3
Jhoulys Chacin (4-3) won for the first time since April, allowing two runs over five innings, as the Rockies beat the Nationals 8-3 Tuesday night. Dan Haren (4-8) took the loss, giving up five runs in a disastrous fifth inning that saw 10 Rockies go to the plate.
Rockies rookie Tyler Colvin hit a pair of two run home runs, including one in the decisive fifth inning, and Carlos Gonzalez it a three-run homer for the Rockies.
Minnesota 3, Philadelphia 2
Justin Morneau put the Twins ahead for good with an RBI single in the 8th to beat the Phillies, 3-2. Mike Adams (1-4) took the loss for the Phillies, their fourth straight, while Duensing (1-1) got the win in relief despite giving up a run in the top half.
Twins starter PJ Walters pitched 7 1/3 innings of two-run baseball, and Glen Perkins pitched the ninth for his 14th save.
St. Louis 9, NY Mets 2
Jeremy Hefner (1-6) took his sixth loss of the season as the Cardinals beat the Mets, 9-2. Rookie Michael Wacha (1-0) got his first major league win for the Cardinals.
Allen Craig and Shane Robinson homered for the Cardinals. Wacha threw 37 pitches in the first, then settled down after that in dealing the Mets their 7th loss in eight games. Omar Quintanilla homered for the Mets, who allowed seven unearned runs in the game.
Miami 5, Milwaukee 4
Giancarlo Stanton hit a two run home run in the eighth, lifting the Marlins over the Brewers 5-4. Chad Qualls (2-0) picked up a win for the Marlins, who snapped the Brewers’ four game winning streak.
This was Stanton’s first game off the DL. Derek Dietrich also homered for the Marlins, who drew a season-low 13,110 at Marlins Park.
