Putin Denies Super Bowl Ring Theft: Patriots Owner's Story 'Weird'

Russian President Vladmir Putin has denied that he stole New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft’s Super Bowl ring in 2005.

Putin’s spokesman told CNN on Sunday that the ring was given to Putin as a gift, and Kraft’s story was “weird.”

Last Thursday, Kraft, according to the New York Post, told an audience  at the Medal of Excellence gala:

“I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring’ … I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out.”

Kraft had said that he gave the ring to Putin as a gift but admitted he did so only after President George W. Bush’s White House urged him to do so because it would “really be in the best interest of United States-Soviet relations if you meant to give the ring as a present.”

Kraft’s late wife had also denied that the ring was gift.
