Report: Arrest Warrant Issued for Patriots Tight End Hernandez

An arrest warrant has been issued for Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez in connection with the death of a 27-year-old Boston man less than a mile from Hernandez’s home.

A law enforcement source told Boston’s WBZ NewsRadio 1030 on Friday that the “warrant has been issued on a charge of obstruction of justice.”

According to that source, “it is possible that charges could eventually be upgraded.”

The body of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd of Dorchester was found Monday a mile from Hernandez’s home. He was shot in the back of the head. Lloyd reportedly texted someone to indicate he was in a car with Hernandez and two other people shortly before his death. Hernandez and two other men later reportedly returned to Hernandez’s home–without Lloyd. Hernandez reportedly destroyed his surveillance system, smashed his cell phone, and hired a cleaning crew to scrub his mansion.

Hernandez has reportedly hired the law firm of Ropes and Gray to represent him.
