Nuggets Hire Shaw

The Denver Nuggets hired Brian Shaw as their head coach to replace reigning NBA coach of the year George Karl who was sacked after the team was eliminated early in the post-season.

Karl, who was fired earlier this month, had guided the Nuggets to playoff appearances in each of his nine seasons and led the Nuggets to a franchise-record 57 wins last season.

The 47-year-old Shaw has been an assistant with the Indiana Pacers the last two seasons. Before that he was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2005-2011.

Indiana won 49 games this season, were the Central Division champions, and lost to eventual NBA champion Miami in the league semi-finals in seven games.

Shaw spent time with the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers and Lakers during his playing days, winning three NBA titles.

Karl compiled a 423-257 record with the Nuggets leading them to a 38-3 mark at home last season.
