The Senate’s top two Republicans wrote a letter to the heads of the six major professional sports organizations on Friday urging them not to let the Obama administration bully and threaten them into promoting Obamacare.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) wrote that they have “long been concerned by the Obama administration’s record of using the threat of policy retaliation to solicit support for its policies or silence critics.”
“Should the administration or its allies suggest that there will be any policy consequence for your decision not to participate in their outreach efforts, we urge you to resist any such pressure and to contact us immediately so that we may conduct appropriate oversight,” they wrote.
The senators wrote that Obamacare remains “deeply divisive and unpopular” and noted the passage of time has only reinforced the concerns of Americans about the bill, especially regarding rising health care costs and the intervention of the federal government into “some of Americans’ most personal health care decisions.”
The Senators wrote letters to the commissioners of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, Professional Golf Association and the chairman and chief executive officer of NASCAR.
